On October 20, 2020, Datto Holding Corp. launched its initial public offering (IPO) on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the trading symbol “MSP.” As a member of the Corporate Communications team, I was tasked with collaborating with key executive stakeholders to ensure proper messaging regarding the IPO to internal employees. Datto educated employees starting with the initial S-1 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), through listing day, and beyond.

As a part of the pre-IPO communications, I completed the following strategic actions:

  • Drafted, distributed, and internally promoted email messaging from the General Counsel regarding IPO readiness, which included legal policies and other resources
  • Assisted in providing input for investor relations website with outside vendors
  • Drafted, distributed, and internally promoted email messaging from CEO regarding the live video webcast and other employee engagement activities
  • Liaised with events team to promote in-person celebratory events at select regional offices

As a part of the communications plan executed during and directly following the IPO, I completed the following actions:

  • Promotion of global employee celebrations through social intranet (facilitated sharing of photos and videos submitted by employees)
  • Created “IPO Hub” on intranet, which included:
    • NYSE launch and IPO FAQ documents
    • Information on employee equity programs
    • Basic overview and terms glossary for going public
    • Training videos
    • Executive announcements and internal promotions
    • Policies and procedures
    • Press releases and media coverage
    • Information for customers
  • Launched special edition of “What’s Happening at Datto” newsletter to share additional coverage with employees

Success metrics for internal communications were as follows*:

  • 94% of employees visited the intranet at least once (3% higher than the monthly average)
  • Over 40,200 intranet content views (over 2,700 more than the all-time highest month)
  • The IPO Hub achieved 2,550 total views
  • Employee equity information received 886 total views
  • The webcast, hosted on the intranet, was viewed over 1,400 times
